Chapter 1, Part 2, The Hobbit

The Hill: Hobbiton across the Water
It had an entirely round door like the window of a ship, painted green, with a bronze and yellow door-knob in the painstakingly fixed middle.  The door opened on to a tube-shaped hall like a tunnel:  indeed the most suitable tunnel, not smoky, with panelled walls, and floors only tiled and carpeted, provided with polished chairs, and the most hooks for hats and cloaks that must be hung and furnished – for the hobbit was fond of visitors.
