The Hill: Hobbiton across the Water
It had an entirely round
door like the window of a ship, painted green, with a bronze and yellow door-knob
in the painstakingly fixed middle. The
door opened on to a tube-shaped hall like a tunnel: indeed the most suitable tunnel, not smoky, with
panelled walls, and floors only tiled and carpeted, provided with polished
chairs, and the most hooks for hats and cloaks that must be hung and furnished –
for the hobbit was fond of visitors.
